Clinical hypnosis is hypnotherapy performed by a licensed mental health professional who is also trained in hypnosis. Hypnosis is only used to treat problems and issues which the therapist is qualified to treat by other methods as well and is generally a part of a more comprehensive and individualized plan of treatment.
Hypnosis is not mysterious mystical mind control,
entertainment, or a way to recover lost memories. It is the skillful
guidance of a person’s mental focus toward the utilization of their
whole mind and body to access resources and abilities they already
possess or are capable of - in order to solve problems or increase skills.
The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) is recognized by the
American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association
and the National Association of Social Workers as a leading authority
in credentialing in clinical hypnosis. To be certified requires 40
hours of workshop training and 20 additional hours of consultation with
an Approved Consultant. It also requires that you are already
credentialed in an approved profession.
I am an Approved Consultant and Certified in Clinical Hypnosis by ASCH, and use this
modality in the context of psychotherapy in combination with other
methods to treat various stress-related conditions, psychological
issues, and pain and habit control.
